The juniors have had a great few weeks with almost everyone now back from holidays and full teams on the field. Our Auskick program will also start again this Friday night.
Our ANZAC round saw all of our players showing great respect during the pre-game services and everyone played in the ANZAC spirit. Congratulations to our ANZAC Day medallists, Seb, Charlie, Teo, Ethan, Josh, Blade, Sam and Paddy who displayed mateship, courage, endurance, sacrifice and fair play throughout their games.
Round 3 saw us host three home games on the top oval which allowed us to have the BBQ fired up and the coffee van operating. A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped run the BBQ and canteen on the day.
Many of your junior girls and boys ran out with the men’s and women’s teams on the weekend. It was great to see the seniors welcoming the junior players and making them feel so special. Thank you! It was also fantastic to see lots of our other junior players and their families at the matches to support the players and represent Ringwood FNC.
Round 3 Results U8 vs Blackburn Black – The team had a great time playing their third match and they really enjoyed the special presentation at the end of the game where the ANZAC medallists were awarded. Everyone is showing improvement in their skills and game sense every week.
U10 vs Mitcham – There’s been a noticeable improvement in tackling from this team who keep working hard each week. Scoring was hard to come by against a strong opposition, however the U10s kept their heads held high and made Mitcham earn their scores.
U14 vs Montrose Red – The boys worked hard and led the game at certain points. This was the best match so far this season. Montrose got away and it was hard to claw back but there’s a lot of positives to take away from the game. Ringwood: 5.8. 38 Montrose Red: 6. 8. 62
U16 vs Upper FTG - Sunday saw us venture to Kings Park to play a very fired up and physical Upper Ferntree Gully, it was very tough going early where UFG went into half time up by 17 points, they were certainly playing better than their ladder position indicated. Halftime saw the coach make a few minor moves and gave the boys, let’s call it an inspirational speech, to go into the final half, at 3/4 time Ringwood had wrestled back the lead, before running out eventual 23 point victors, 73-50. Big congratulations must got to Paddy Burgess and Sam La Bozzetta for winning the ANZAC medals.
The weekend however was not done, again as an outing majority of the 16s attended the dawn service at the Ringwood clock tower to remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedoms we all enjoy today.
Ringwood: 10. 13. 73 UFTG: 7. 8. 50
Coming Up… Joshua Buratti will be playing his 50th game in Round 5. Joshua has had a great junior career so far, winning the League Best & Fairest the last two years running. He is also currently trialling for the U14 Interleague team. Congratulations on your 50 game milestone, Josh!
In Round 6 we celebrate our mums, grandmas, step mums and all the special mother figures in our lives. We’ll be hosting our Pink Sports Day to raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia. Our players will be ‘pinking up’, with socks, laces, hair etc. all getting a touch of pink! We encourage parents and supporters to also come in something pink to support the day and a worthy cause.
